A young talent from Busan has brought 'Busan' to the education scene in Central Asia.
The Busan Metropolitan Government and the Busan Economic Promotion Agency announced on December 14 that Na Haeri, CEO of Nanugi World Co., Ltd., who was selected as a talent for the "2024 Youth World-Class Development Project," has successfully introduced an online school in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The "Busan-Style Online School," developed by CEO Na, has been adopted as part of the regular curriculum at Secondary School No. 45 in Almaty.
The "Busan-Style Online School" is an online education program utilizing Zoom, centered on the history, culture, and education of Busan. Its content features local history such as Dongnae and Yeongdo, the characteristics of Busan as a maritime city including Busan Port and Haeundae, Busan’s food and arts, as well as basic and conversational Korean-all designed to highlight Busan’s regional identity.
CEO Na held an information session in Almaty to introduce Busan’s educational infrastructure and living environment, and personally demonstrated the program. Through the online classes, local students learned about Busan, broadening their interest in and understanding of the city. The city government explained that this program is also gaining attention as a new model to address issues such as attracting foreign residents, preventing regional decline, and responding to the decrease in the school-age population.
Busan is also continuing exchanges by linking online and offline activities. In August, 26 students from the Almaty Korean Education Center were invited to Busan for a campus tour of eight local universities. The program included hands-on experiences in academic departments and dormitory life, further strengthening the foundation for exchanges with Central Asia.
CEO Na Haeri said, "Without the support of the Youth World-Class Development Project, this achievement would have been difficult," adding, "I will continue to serve as a civilian diplomat connecting Busan with the world."
Kim Guiok, Director of the Youth-Industry-Academia Bureau of Busan, stated, "This is the result of providing young people with opportunities to advance onto the global stage," and added, "We will continue to discover talented youth in various fields to enhance Busan’s competitiveness."
