Inje County, Gangwon Province, announced on December 14 that it plans to complete the installation of 12 multipurpose CCTV cameras at 8 locations within the county during December to strengthen public safety and expand the local crime prevention network.
The main installation sites include: in front of the Kia Motors dealership in Inje-eup, the alley by Wolgwang Restaurant, in front of the Inje Grass Soccer Field parking lot, Salgumi underpass, Inje No. 1 Public Parking Lot, in front of the Gaa 1-ri Senior Center, the entrances to Nojeon-dong and Bongdeok-dong in Girin-myeon, and the entrance to Oksugol in Yongdae-ri, Buk-myeon, totaling 8 locations.
Earlier this year, the county installed 17 multipurpose CCTV cameras at 9 crime-prone areas in the first half of the year, and completed the replacement of 58 outdated cameras at 34 sites through a comprehensive inspection, steadily improving the CCTV infrastructure.
Currently, Inje County operates 753 CCTV cameras at 398 locations, centered around its Integrated CCTV Control Center, maintaining a 24-hour monitoring system. In particular, CCTV cameras installed in rural and sparsely populated areas play a vital role in responding to missing person cases, monitoring disasters such as wildfires, and preventing crimes in residential neighborhoods.
The newly installed CCTV cameras will also be linked to the Integrated Control Center for real-time monitoring. The county plans to further strengthen its cooperation system with related agencies such as the police and fire departments to build a more robust community safety network.
Additionally, the county will conduct on-site inspections across Inje County in December to select new locations for multipurpose CCTV installation in 2026. The selection of new sites will focus on areas requested by the police, public safety councils, and resident petitions.
A county official stated, "We are continuously expanding our crime prevention infrastructure so that residents can feel safer in their daily lives," adding, "We will further strengthen the public safety network by enhancing both CCTV installation and monitoring systems going forward."
