Shooting at Ivy League Brown University in U.S. Leaves at Least 2 Dead Brown University Campus View

A shooting incident occurred on the campus of Brown University, one of the Ivy League schools located in the New England region of the eastern United States. Multiple casualties have been reported, and authorities have not yet apprehended the suspect.

According to major U.S. media outlets such as CNN on December 13 (local time), Providence Mayor Brett Smiley of Rhode Island announced that at least two people were killed and eight others were seriously injured in the shooting at Brown University.

Mayor Smiley added that authorities have not yet apprehended the suspect responsible for the shooting.

According to the university, the shooting took place near "Barus and Holley," a seven-story building that houses the School of Engineering and the Department of Physics.

A police official stated, "The suspect is a man dressed in black." The official added, "It is not yet clear how the suspect entered the campus, but he was last seen leaving toward Hope Street."

Earlier, at approximately 4:49 p.m., police issued their first warning via their X account, advising people to avoid the area near Brown University.

The university also alerted the campus community through its emergency notification system, urging everyone to take shelter until further notice. Additional instructions were given to lock doors and set mobile phones to silent mode when sheltering indoors.

President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social later that day, stating, "I have been briefed on the shooting at Brown University," and that the FBI had been dispatched to the scene.

President Trump initially wrote in the post that "the suspect has been arrested," but about 20 minutes later, he corrected himself, saying, "Brown University police have retracted their earlier statement. The suspect is not yet in custody."

Meanwhile, founded in 1764, Brown University is the seventh oldest university in the United States. The university has a total enrollment of about 10,000 students, including approximately 7,000 undergraduates. With an undergraduate acceptance rate of 5.4%, Brown is known as one of the most competitive and prestigious universities in the country. The incident occurred on a Saturday during the fall semester exam period, when the campus was reported to be crowded with students.
