Guro District in Seoul (District Mayor Jang Inhong) has been selected as an outstanding institution in the '2025 Sewer Odor Reduction Performance Evaluation' organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, receiving the Encouragement Award. The award ceremony will be held on the 18th at the Seosomun Government Complex Welfare Building of Seoul City Hall.
The Sewer Odor Reduction Performance Evaluation is a system implemented by the Seoul Metropolitan Government since 2016 for the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul, aiming to reduce odors from septic tanks and sewers and to create a pleasant environment.
From October 1 of last year to September 30 of this year, the district was selected as an outstanding institution, ranking 8th among the 25 autonomous districts in the evaluation of 10 items across three categories (common, odor target grade management, and private sewage treatment facility management) over the one-year period.
The district achieved excellent results in this evaluation largely due to the systematic analysis of the causes of major odor-generating areas and the development of improvement measures through the sewer odor reduction measures study conducted in February this year.
Additionally, the district carried out various activities to reduce sewer odor, including operating a Sewer Odor Reduction Task Force, providing group training for septic tank managers, handling odor-related civil complaints, inspecting odor reduction facilities at excrement collection and transportation companies, and newly installing and monitoring odor reduction facilities.
Jang Inhong, Mayor of Guro District, stated, "This award is the result of our continuous efforts to inspect and improve the field for sewer odor reduction," adding, "We will continue to strengthen odor management and maintenance so that residents can experience a more pleasant environment."
