Lee Kanghee, a member of the Gyeongju City Council, has been honored as the "2025 Nationwide Local Council Eco-Friendly Excellence Assemblyman."
This evaluation, organized by the Korea Environmental Information Research Center, comprehensively assessed over 3,500 local council members nationwide based on the sincerity, depth, sustainability, feasibility, and contribution of their legislative activities. As a result, eight metropolitan council members and twenty-six basic council members were ultimately selected.
Assemblyman Lee was highly recognized for leading efforts to improve laws and systems to address urgent local environmental issues, protect the socially vulnerable, and enhance transparency in budget execution.
In particular, Assemblyman Lee spearheaded the proposal to amend the "Industrial Waste Management Act" by forming a coalition with waste-affected regions across the country to resolve the issues of a large-scale medical waste incineration plant and industrial waste landfill in Duryu Industrial Area, Angang-eup. He also secured a budget of 600 million won to establish an odor monitoring center in Angang-eup, thereby creating a data-based real-time monitoring system.
Additionally, he has focused on restoring residents' environmental rights by improving the administrative appeals system in relation to ongoing attempts for landfill project approvals that have persisted for over six years.
Furthermore, he has carried out legislative activities to protect the socially vulnerable and address public grievances, such as rationalizing excessive management fees for senior welfare housing, and has been credited with preventing budget waste through thorough analysis.
Assemblyman Lee Kanghee stated, "Being selected as the Eco-Friendly Excellence Assemblyman is not an achievement of mine alone, but was made possible thanks to the efforts of residents to protect the environment." He added, "In this era of climate crisis, I will continue uncompromising legislative activities to create a clean and safe Gyeongju for our children."
