Based on the Korea Meteorological Administration's forecast indicating a high possibility of snow accumulation over the weekend, the city plans to carry out preemptive snow removal operations, focusing on major arterial roads and areas expected to experience traffic congestion.
Additionally, a 24-hour situation room will be operated to respond swiftly to changing weather conditions, such as the amount of snowfall and road icing.
In particular, to ensure traffic safety during the early morning hours, the city will deploy 89 snow removal vehicles, 96 personnel, and more than 250 tons of de-icing agents to preemptively spread de-icing materials on major roads.
Furthermore, Gwangju City will activate a public-private cooperation system involving public institutions and voluntary disaster prevention teams, making every effort to prevent road icing and minimize inconvenience for citizens.
Mayor Bang Sehwan stated, "Since there is a possibility of greater snowfall than expected this weekend, we will mobilize all available administrative resources to minimize inconvenience and prevent safety accidents for citizens. We kindly ask citizens to use public transportation whenever possible and to take precautions at home to prevent accidents caused by snow accumulation."
Meanwhile, even after the snowfall ends, the city will continue to inspect remaining icy sections and conduct additional snow removal operations to ensure the safety of its citizens.
