Cooperative Environmental Cleanup Effort
Leading the Way in Creating a Clean Water Source
Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province conducted an environmental cleanup activity with local residents on December 11 in the Danjangcheon area of Wondong-myeon, located upstream of the Miryang Dam.
This cleanup was organized to collect the increased amount of waste following the rise in visitors after the "Baenaegol Apple Festival" held in November. The goal was to prevent water pollution and create a clean environment in the water source protection area.
Approximately 60 participants, including the Water Quality Management Division of Yangsan City, the Wondong-myeon Administrative Welfare Center, and local residents, focused on collecting various types of waste left in the water source protection area. Through these efforts, household waste that had increased after the festival was quickly removed, laying the groundwork for restoring the local environment.
This cleanup activity is expected to improve not only the water quality in the protection area but also the overall living environment in the vicinity. Additionally, as residents and the local government worked together on this initiative, it is seen as strengthening the community's sense of responsibility for environmental conservation.
Lee Sangmi, Head of the Water Quality Management Division, stated, "This cleanup activity is a meaningful example of residents and Yangsan City joining forces to improve the local environment," adding, "We will continue to collaborate with the community to pursue sustainable environmental conservation activities in the future."
