Man in His 40s Found Dead in Yongin Apartment, 9-Year-Old Son Discovered Deceased in Car

A man in his 40s and his 9-year-old son were found dead in an apartment in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. Police are investigating the case, suspecting that the father killed his son before taking his own life.

According to police on December 11, a 119 emergency call was received at around 5:55 p.m. reporting that a person had been found in an apartment in Giheung-gu, Yongin.

Responding to a joint request from the fire department, police arrived at the scene and found a man in his 40s, referred to as Mr. A, who was presumed to have died after falling from the 20th floor of the apartment. The police recovered his body.

The police then used a car key found in Mr. A's pants pocket to locate a vehicle parked in the apartment's parking lot.

When the police opened the car door, they discovered the body of Mr. A's 9-year-old son, referred to as B, in the back seat.

Based on the medical examiner's opinion that B's cause of death was presumed to be asphyxiation due to neck compression, the police believe that Mr. A strangled his son to death before jumping from the building.

After analyzing CCTV footage, police confirmed that Mr. A picked up his son, who attends a special school, in his car that afternoon, drove to an apartment where they used to live, parked in the lot, went up to the apartment, and then jumped.

No involvement of a third party was detected in the movements from picking up his son after school to arriving at the scene of the incident.

It was reported that Mr. A had recently told his family that he was in despair over his situation, saying he had lost 200 million won in stocks.

A police official stated, "It is presumed that the man took his own life due to despair over his circumstances," adding, "We are still investigating the exact circumstances, including the time and place of the son's death."
