Kiosks and AI, Customized Education for Middle-aged and Senior Citizens

The Seoul Digital Donghaeng Plaza 'Gangdong Center' opened on December 10 on the 4th floor of the Cheonho 3-dong Public Complex Office Building (7, Jinhwangdo-ro 23-gil) in Gangdong District, Seoul. The district mayor is Lee Suhee.

Seoul Digital Donghaeng Plaza is a learning and cultural space that supports digital literacy education, counseling, and hands-on experiences. The Gangdong Center was established after Gangdong District was selected for the Seoul Metropolitan Government's "Seoul Digital Donghaeng Plaza Establishment Project" in February. Gangdong District provided the space free of charge, while the city was responsible for setting up and operating the facility.

The center is equipped with learning and experience spaces such as classrooms, as well as the latest devices including artificial intelligence (AI) robot Go and augmented reality (AR) sports. There is also a communication area for resident self-help groups.

Customized programs for middle-aged and senior citizens are also available. In the "Samsung Senior Digital Academy" experience zone, a program developed through an agreement between the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Samsung S1, users can practice using everyday kiosks in realistic scenarios. Activities such as booking train tickets, banking, ordering at restaurants, and online shopping are all simulated to mirror real life.

Education, experience, and counseling programs can be applied for through the Seoul Digital Donghaeng Plaza website, mobile app, or on-site registration. Anyone can use the center free of charge, regardless of age.

Lee Suhee, Mayor of Gangdong District, stated, "With the establishment of the Seoul Digital Donghaeng Plaza Gangdong Center, we expect it will greatly help resolve digital accessibility issues for our residents," adding, "In a rapidly changing digital environment, Gangdong District will be a friendly and warm companion to help seniors gain digital confidence in their daily lives."
