According to the county on December 11, this demonstration, organized by the Korea Folk Falconry Preservation Association, aims to widely promote the value and excellence of "Maesanyang," a traditional folk culture of the region that marks its 15th anniversary of being inscribed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage this year.

During the event, visitors can explore the origins of falconry, traditional traps, and related photographs through exhibits inside the Maesanyang Experience Promotion Center. Various programs, including live demonstrations of falconry techniques and bird capture skills, will also take place on site.

Maesanyang is a traditional hunting method that uses trained falcons to catch wild animals such as pheasants and rabbits. It is known to have originated during the Three Kingdoms period and became widespread from the Goguryeo era. Even during the Japanese colonial period, the tradition continued, with more than 1,740 people licensed for falconry, ensuring its survival to the present day.

In particular, Baegun-myeon in Jinan County is a highland area abundant with wild birds and heavy winter snowfall, making it a region where the tradition of falconry remains vividly preserved. This demonstration will feature Park Jeong-o, a master falconer, and seven apprentices, who will reenact the traditional hunting process by catching rabbits and pheasants using real falcons.

A county official stated, "Falconry is a precious cultural heritage preserved by our county," adding, "We hope that this public demonstration will serve as an opportunity to strengthen the foundation for the preservation and succession of falconry."
