It has been confirmed that there were 229 reports and consultations related to Coupang phishing incidents over a ten-day period.
According to data submitted to Assemblyman Lee Jeongheon of the Democratic Party of Korea by the National Police Agency on December 11, there were a total of 229 reports and consultations related to the Coupang incident between November 30 and December 9, spanning ten days.
The main types of cases involve impersonating Coupang to lure victims with promises of compensation for damages or pretending to be involved in product deliveries. Methods such as selecting Coupang review panelists or announcing winners of Coupang events-tactics that were used even before the personal information leak-were also reported.
Previously, Coupang reported to the Personal Information Protection Commission on November 20 that 4,500 customer records had been exposed. However, on November 29, the company announced that the number of customer accounts exposed was actually 33.7 million.
