Drug tests were conducted on police officers at the rank of Senior Superintendent and above, and all tested negative except for 18 individuals who did not consent to the test.
According to data submitted by Assemblyman Seo Beomsoo of the People Power Party on December 11, 2025, to the National Police Agency, out of 911 police officers at the rank of Senior Superintendent and above who were subject to drug testing, 893 underwent the test. None of the officers tested positive or required disciplinary action such as an internal investigation. However, 18 individuals did not consent to the drug test and therefore were not tested.
The drug tests were conducted unannounced to ensure effectiveness and were carried out using a "rapid saliva test" method after obtaining individual consent in order to minimize human rights violations.
Previously, the National Police Agency stated that the purpose of the test was to "establish the fundamental principle that drug offenders cannot exist within the police force and to proactively implement an internal inspection system so that the police, as the main agents of drug enforcement, can maintain public trust."
Going forward, the National Police Agency plans to promote drug testing for up to 10% of all staff at each police station by amending the Police Officers Act.
