As a trough of low pressure approaches from the Shandong Peninsula in China, most regions nationwide are expected to see rain from the early morning to the morning of the 11th. In areas with lower temperatures, such as eastern Gyeonggi Province, Gangwon Province, and the northeastern mountainous regions of North Gyeongsang Province, snow may fall instead of rain.
After the trough passes, easterly winds will blow along the edge of a high-pressure system expanding from northern China toward the East Sea, bringing rain or snow to the east coast and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province, as well as the east coast and northeastern mountainous areas of North Gyeongsang Province, from the afternoon of the 11th through the morning of the 12th.
Since these regions have been experiencing persistently dry conditions, this will serve as a much-needed rainfall. Between dawn and morning on the 12th, rain or snow will also fall in Ulsan, and a few raindrops are expected in Busan. However, in the east coast and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province, heavy, wet snow laden with moisture could lead to damage.
In particular, from the night of the 11th to the morning of the 12th, heavy snowfall of 1 to 3 centimeters per hour is possible, so precautions are necessary. The expected precipitation for the 11th and 12th is as follows: 5 to 15 millimeters for the east coast of Gangwon Province; 5 to 10 millimeters for the Seoul metropolitan area, the five West Sea islands, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province, Chungcheong, Gwangju, South Jeolla Province, the northeastern mountainous regions of North Gyeongsang Province, the northern east coast of North Gyeongsang Province, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo; around 5 millimeters for North Jeolla Province; and less than 5 millimeters for Daegu, inland areas of North Gyeongsang Province, the southern east coast of North Gyeongsang Province, Busan, Ulsan, and South Gyeongsang Province. Precipitation refers to the total amount of water falling from clouds to the ground, including both rain and snow.
Expected snowfall is 3 to 8 centimeters (with some areas exceeding 10 centimeters) in the mountainous and east coast regions of Gangwon Province; 1 to 5 centimeters in the northeastern mountainous regions of North Gyeongsang Province; 1 to 3 centimeters in Ulleungdo and Dokdo; around 1 centimeter in the northern east coast of North Gyeongsang Province; and less than 1 centimeter in Ulsan and the southern east coast of North Gyeongsang Province.
This round of rain and snow will be accompanied by strong winds with instantaneous speeds of over 55 kilometers per hour (up to 70 kilometers per hour in mountainous areas). From the afternoon of the 11th, strong wind advisories are expected for the west coast of South Chungcheong Province, the coasts of Jeolla Province, and Jeju Island, so precautions are advised as winds will be strong.
At sea, strong winds of 30 to 65 kilometers per hour (9 to 18 meters per second) and waves as high as 1.5 to 4.0 meters are expected in the West Sea, the central East Sea, the northern part of the southern East Sea, and the western distant seas of the southern sea from the morning of the 11th, and in other sea areas from the night of the 11th, so caution is needed.
On the 11th, temperatures are expected to remain above average for this time of year. Morning lows across the country will range from -1 to 9 degrees Celsius, and daytime highs will range from 6 to 17 degrees Celsius.
The expected minimum and maximum temperatures for major cities are as follows: Seoul, 5 and 8 degrees; Incheon, 6 and 7 degrees; Daejeon, 5 and 12 degrees; Gwangju, 7 and 13 degrees; Daegu, 4 and 15 degrees; Ulsan, 5 and 17 degrees; and Busan, 8 and 17 degrees.
On the 12th, temperatures are expected to drop to levels similar to the seasonal average, with morning lows falling by 5 to 10 degrees in just one day, so caution is advised.
