60 Billion Won Increase for Namsan-Hayang Bypass Road and More
Budget Reflects Funding for Key Issues in Citizen Safety, Education, and Industry
Gyeongsan City (Mayor Cho Hyunil) announced on December 10 that 148 billion won in national funding to address local issues has been included in the 2026 national budget bill recently passed by the National Assembly.
Excluding general national funding, the amount of national funds secured by Gyeongsan City for specific projects increased by 45.3 billion won (44%) compared to the previous year's 102.7 billion won.
According to Gyeongsan City, since April, Mayor Cho Hyunil, along with department heads and directors, has been actively visiting relevant ministries such as the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, as well as the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the National Assembly, to strongly advocate for the necessity and justification of these projects.
Major new projects reflected in the budget include: 100 million won for a feasibility study on the construction of a multi-purpose facility at Gyeongsan Jungang Elementary School; 4.88 billion won for the installation of carbon dioxide capture equipment; 250 million won to support industry-academia convergence tailored to businesses; 39.2 billion won to support local universities, including the Glocal University Project; 650 million won for the construction of an access road to the Gyeongsan Sangnim Rehabilitation Industry Specialized Complex; and 430 million won for establishing a Small Enterprise and Market Service Gyeongsan Center.
Ongoing projects include: 3.4 billion won for the construction of an access road to the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District; 5 billion won for the Namsan-Hayang national road bypass construction; 10 billion won for the Hayang District 1 sewage pipeline improvement project; 9.7 billion won for the Muncheonji District 1 sewage pipeline improvement project; 6.1 billion won for the construction of the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry Center; 1.8 billion won for building a foundation to advance the future vehicle electronic control parts industry; 2.5 billion won for the expansion of the sanitary landfill (phase 2); and 1.5 billion won for establishing a support center for small manufacturers.
The city stated that with the inclusion of this budget, it will be able to stably promote key projects to resolve local issues, such as the full-scale implementation of the Glocal University Project, enhancing citizen safety and local industrial competitiveness, and expanding transportation infrastructure.
Furthermore, the city emphasized the significance of laying the foundation for balanced regional development that simultaneously secures future growth engines and improves the living environment for residents.
Mayor Cho Hyunil of Gyeongsan City said, "Competition among local governments to secure national funding is fiercer than ever, but through proactive measures, we have secured the necessary budget to improve citizens' lives and promote regional development. Next year, we will continue to identify essential new projects for the region and further increase the scale of national funding through close cooperation with ministries, Gyeongbuk Province, and the National Assembly."
