Creation of 'Sangdo Station Park Golf Station'
Utilizing Unused Subway Space... Opening Scheduled for February Next Year
Dongjak District in Seoul (District Mayor Park Ilha) is set to create an indoor sports facility by utilizing unused space in a subway station.
The district announced on December 10 that it had signed a business agreement with Seoul Metro on December 5 and will officially begin the development of the 'Sangdo Station Park Golf Station.' This is the first project of the 'Dongjak Health Road' initiative, which aims to gradually expand Dongjak-style sports facilities by making use of unused spaces within subway stations.
Sangdo Station serves as a key transportation hub in the district, passing through 11 out of 15 neighborhoods and accommodating an average of about 23,000 daily users. An indoor sports facility featuring three screen park golf bays and a rest area will be established in a vacant commercial space on the first basement floor of the station. The district plans to begin construction this month, targeting an opening in February next year.
The facility will be operated by the Dongjak District Facilities Management Corporation, and the usage fee is expected to be set at 4,000 won (with a 50% discount for district residents). It will operate in four daily sessions from Tuesday to Sunday, with up to 12 people able to reserve per time slot through the Seoul Public Service Reservation System. The facility will be closed on national holidays.
Park Ilha, Mayor of Dongjak District, stated, "Sangdo Station Park Golf Station will be an indoor sports space that residents can conveniently enjoy in their daily lives, and by integrating it with the subway, user convenience will be greatly enhanced. We will continue to expand customized leisure and sports facilities to support the healthy and vibrant lives of our residents."
