Hapcheon County Honored as 'Best' in 2025 Local River Maintenance Evaluation

Comprehensive Inspection of Local Rivers in All Cities and Counties in the Province
Evaluation Conducted Through Systematic Management Review

Hapcheon County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on December 10 that it had been selected as the 'Best' institution among counties in the 2025 Local River Maintenance Evaluation conducted by South Gyeongsang Province.

This evaluation was carried out in accordance with Article 27 of the River Act and Articles 8 and 9 of the Regulations on River-Related Administrative Procedures. It involved a comprehensive inspection of the management status of all local rivers in the province's cities and counties, conducted twice: once in the spring (from May 26 to June 10) and once in the fall (from November 17 to November 28).

Hapcheon County received high marks for systematically removing obstacles that hindered the flow of water within rivers, continuously dredging sediment from riverbeds, and thereby preemptively eliminating disaster risks and stably securing the rivers' water conveyance capacity.

These maintenance activities significantly reduced the likelihood of river flooding and overflow, contributing to the prevention of inundation damage to nearby farmland, residential areas, and various infrastructure. They also achieved tangible results in alleviating residents' ongoing concerns and improving overall safety in daily life.

Additionally, the establishment of a field-oriented management system-including strengthened crackdowns on illegal activities, expanded river monitoring using drones, and resident-participatory clean-up initiatives-has further enhanced river safety and disaster response capabilities.

County Governor Kim Yuncheol stated, "Going forward, we will build a systematic river management system to proactively respond to frequent heavy rainfall and natural disasters caused by climate change. We will also strengthen on-site inspections and promote safety administration in collaboration with local residents."
