Sacheon City Takes Major Step Toward Becoming a National Hub for Aerospace Talent Development

Establishment of Science and Technology Institute-affiliated Aerospace Science Gifted School
Feasibility Study Budget of 300 Million Won Confirmed

Efforts to systematically foster future core talent in the national strategic aerospace industry are expected to accelerate, with Sacheon City, South Gyeongsang Province at the center.

On December 2, the feasibility study budget of 300 million won for the establishment of the "Science and Technology Institute-affiliated Aerospace Science Gifted School" project (with a total projected cost of 100 billion won) was included and finalized in the 2026 government budget, providing real momentum for the project's advancement.

This achievement is the result of persistent efforts by Sacheon City, Assemblyman Seo Cheonho, the National Assembly's Science, ICT, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee, as well as the united support of citizens and the local community.

The city expects that the inclusion of this budget, in conjunction with the ongoing development of the aerospace cluster and the expansion of research and education infrastructure following the opening of the Aerospace Administration, will serve as a crucial turning point for realizing the "Aerospace Convergence City," where industry, academia, research, and government are organically connected.

In particular, if the gifted school is established in Sacheon, outstanding students selected from across the country will be able to study, conduct research, and perform experiments in the region, receiving hands-on education linked to the advanced aerospace industry. This is anticipated to create a virtuous cycle in which future aerospace experts are nurtured, settle, and find employment within the region.

Additionally, educational and research programs in collaboration with the Aerospace Administration, the National Aerospace Industrial Complex, related companies, research institutes, and universities (including graduate schools) are expected to be implemented. Through these efforts, Sacheon is projected to emerge as a key hub for supplying future aerospace professionals.

Mayor Park Dongsik stated, "The establishment of the Aerospace Science Gifted School is more than just attracting an educational institution; it will be a significant milestone for Sacheon to become a true center for nurturing aerospace talent," and added, "We will mobilize all administrative resources and work closely with the Aerospace Administration, the government, the National Assembly, and the industry to ensure the smooth progress of the project."

Meanwhile, Sacheon City plans to continue expanding its aerospace ecosystem, aiming to complete a world-class aerospace convergence city like Toulouse, France, and to contribute to strengthening the global competitiveness of South Korea's aerospace industry.
