Declaration of Vision to Become Asia's No. 1 in Next-Generation Video, Digital Twin, and Simulation Research
The Institute of Virtual Convergence Technology at Dongseo University (President Jang Jeguk) recently held a 'Specialized Field R&D Performance Sharing Meeting' at the university's Global Village.
The event proceeded in the order of research achievement presentations, a vision declaration, and an Innovation Talk. More than 40 participants attended, including President Jang Jeguk, key administrators, and professors involved in the research.
At the declaration ceremony, Cho Seungwoo, Director of the Institute of Virtual Convergence Technology, presented a vision to become "Asia's No. 1 in next-generation video, digital twin, and simulation research based on AI Transform."
Director Cho also expressed his ambition to "lead the development of next-generation video, content, and digital twin technologies based on AI, secure unparalleled technological competitiveness for survival, growth, and maximized profitability, and grow into a leading AI×X convergence technology research institute with global competitiveness in AI convergence technology."
In his closing remarks, President Jang Jeguk emphasized, "The vision of the institute is to build an irreplaceable and unique competitive edge by securing original technologies in the Ax field. To achieve this, we must further strengthen interdisciplinary convergence research based on Cross-Lab collaboration, maximize the synergy of accumulated research results, and realize technology-driven brand value."
During the meeting, innovative research achievements aimed at solving industrial and societal issues through the convergence of AI and digital technologies were presented.
The Next-Generation Video Technology Research Center, which is developing technologies based on the needs of companies in the film, animation, and VFX sectors, showcased its ongoing achievements in developing proprietary CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) technology.
Additionally, the center proposed an "Advanced Video AI De-aging Technology Solution" that dramatically reduces dependency on training data and innovatively improves processing efficiency in the data collection and learning process for facial data-a weakness previously identified in conventional de-aging video production technology-by leveraging AI-based technologies.
The "AI Hybrid Animation Production Pipeline," an automation solution that integrates AI technology into the traditionally labor-intensive animation production process to reduce production time and costs by more than 40%, was also introduced.
CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) refers to technology that mathematically models fluid flow and simulates it using computers.
The Convergence Design Research Center, which is conducting research on "Service Design and the Use of Generative AI," introduced its focus on developing services to support local creator business model development.
Dongseo University (President Jang Jeguk) Virtual Convergence Technology Research Institute is conducting a 'Specialized Field R&D Achievement Sharing Meeting'.
The center explained that it is pursuing collaborative research by forming a consortium with Dongseo University, Trackstar Co., Ltd., KOSTA, JH Solution Co., Ltd., and ID InnoLab Co., Ltd. to build generative AI business models, predict target markets, and provide natural language-based 3D modeling services, among other integrated technologies. Through these efforts, the center presented a new industry-academia cooperation model aimed at increasing market success rates and driving production innovation.
The Digital Twin Demonstration Research Center is developing "Cyber-Physical System (CPS) Technology Development," which uses digital twin technology to virtualize physical entities. In 2025, with government support, the center is undertaking projects such as "Technology Development for Enhancing Wind Damage Prevention Capabilities in Urban Areas" (Ministry of the Interior and Safety) and "Establishment of a Demonstration Base for End-Effector in Robot Manufacturing Processes" (Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy).
The center also introduced cases of collaboration in ongoing and planned industry-academia joint projects, emphasizing its commitment to producing tangible R&D results based on the needs of the industrial field.
The Storytelling Research Center, with the research theme "Content Development Using AI Technology," is currently filming the AI + live-action short-form drama "Doctor K" in collaboration with Mongin, a leading domestic production company (producer of "Reborn Rich" and "Taxi Driver"). The center also announced the start of development on the AI webtoon "Doctor K" with a top domestic webtoon production company, aiming to establish an IP-centered, convergent production ecosystem spanning both drama and webtoon formats.
