The Cyber Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on December 9 that it had dispatched 17 investigators, including the head of the cyber investigation division, to Coupang's headquarters in Songpa-gu, Seoul, to secure materials related to the personal information leak incident.

A police official explained, "This search and seizure is an essential measure to accurately ascertain the facts of the case. Based on the secured digital evidence, we plan to comprehensively determine the overall facts of the incident, including the individuals responsible for the leak, the route, and the cause of the leak."

The police began the investigation after receiving a report from Coupang on November 18 that it had confirmed damage from a personal information leak. In the early stages of the incident, Coupang reported that about 4,500 people were affected, but the number of leaked accounts has since increased to 33.7 million.
