Dong-Eui Science University Department of Korean Medicine Herbal Materials Holds 20th Anniversary Anti-Aging Product Competition and Expert Lecture

Dong-Eui Science University announced on December 9 that the Department of Korean Medicine Herbal Materials held the '2025 Anti-Aging Product Development Competition' and the '6th Expert Lecture Commemorating the 20th Anniversary,' bringing together current students and alumni to celebrate the department's 20th anniversary. The event took place on November 26 as part of the AI+ Department Specialization Program under the College Innovation Support Project.

Since its establishment in 2002, the Department of Korean Medicine Herbal Materials has steadily expanded its scope and has hosted an annual anti-aging and wellness product development competition since 2012. This year’s entries included a wide range of products that applied traditional herbal ingredients in practical ways, such as Rehmannia Black Bean Rice, Achyranthes Sweet Rice Drink, Herbal Diet Rice Balls, Five-Spice Jokbal, Herbal Makgeolli, Astragalus and Goji Berry Hotteok, and Goji Berry and Safflower Makgeolli. Students demonstrated their expertise by applying both theoretical knowledge and practical skills learned in the curriculum to the actual product planning process.

To mark the 20th anniversary, the event was held on a larger scale. Around 40 alumni attended to encourage their juniors and support the department’s growth. The alumni donated a 'Junior Love Scholarship' of 5 million won to support current students, and a commemorative 20th-anniversary publication documenting the department’s history was also released.

At the subsequent 6th expert lecture commemorating the 20th anniversary, Jaewon Park, a senior researcher at Okcheondang Co., Ltd. and an alumnus of the department, delivered a lecture sharing insights on the manufacturing and development of Korean medicine products and the latest technological trends. Park remarked, "Watching the students’ creative anti-aging product planning skills, I realized there is much I can learn from them," and added, "It was an occasion where I could truly feel the passionate spirit fostered by the department."

The Department of Korean Medicine Herbal Materials is the only two-year program in Korea specializing in herbal medicine materials and is strengthening its curriculum tailored for adult learners. The university is committed to nurturing professionals by operating a systematic education program that integrates traditional Korean medicine with practical health management courses, such as herbal teas, dietary therapy, and physical therapy, all based on authentic Korean medical science.
