Winter, when the weather turns cold, is the season when the number of patients with hemorrhoids (piles) increases significantly. As temperatures drop, the capillaries around the anus constrict, leading to impaired blood flow, which in turn increases both the incidence and severity of hemorrhoids. The main symptoms of hemorrhoids include pain, bleeding, and itching. The condition manifests in various forms: internal hemorrhoids that develop inside the anus, external hemorrhoids that protrude outside, and mixed hemorrhoids where both types occur simultaneously.
According to the industry on December 9, Ildong Pharmaceutical's "Purefa Series" is an over-the-counter hemorrhoid treatment available at pharmacies without a prescription. The product line features a variety of formulations-including oral medication, topical ointment, and suppositories-designed to effectively address symptoms such as itching, pain, and bleeding, as well as both internal and external hemorrhoids.
The oral medication "Purefasen 600" contains "diosmin," a plant-based flavonoid that acts on the venous blood vessels around the anus, as its active ingredient. Compared to previous products from the company, the diosmin content has been doubled (600 mg per tablet per dose). The product is indicated for the treatment of hemorrhoid-related symptoms, improvement of symptoms associated with venous insufficiency, and as adjunct therapy for disorders caused by capillary fragility.
The topical ointment "Purefine Ointment" comes in two types, depending on whether it contains "menthol," which provides a cooling sensation: "Purefine Ointment" and "Purefine Mild Ointment." Both are indicated for the relief of pain and itching from anal fissures and hemorrhoids, as well as for temporary relief of bleeding and disinfection. Both products commonly contain the following active ingredients: tetrahydrozoline, which reduces pain and bleeding in the hemorrhoidal area; allantoin, which protects the skin; lidocaine, which relieves pain; and chlorhexidine, an antiseptic.
The suppository "Purefine Mild Suppository" is designed for local application to the hemorrhoidal area and contains a higher concentration of active ingredients compared to the company's ointment, making it suitable for more severe symptoms. It contains tetrahydrozoline, lidocaine, and chlorhexidine, and is indicated for the relief of pain and itching from anal fissures and hemorrhoids, as well as for temporary relief of bleeding and disinfection.
An official from Ildong Pharmaceutical stated, "According to previous studies and our own research, mixed hemorrhoids-where both internal and external hemorrhoids occur together-are common, and symptoms such as pain, itching, and bleeding often present in combination." The official emphasized, "It is effective to use oral medication, topical ointment, and suppositories appropriately together after consulting with a specialist."
