Jangheung County in Jeollanam-do announced on December 8 that it had been selected as an excellent institution in two separate evaluations related to water quality management.
Jangheung County was rated as an "exceptionally outstanding institution" in the Yeongsan River and Seomjin River Watershed Management Fund Performance Evaluation conducted by the Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office under the Ministry of Environment. It was also selected as an excellent institution in the water quality total pollution load management evaluation organized by Jeollanam-do.
The watershed management fund evaluation is a process that reviews the performance of fund projects to assess the soundness of their management and operation. Jangheung County received high marks for the adequacy of its planning and the efficiency of its budget execution.
Total pollution load management is a system that sets allowable pollutant loads by region to achieve target water quality, and manages pollutant emissions within those limits. If the allowable load is exceeded, development activities are restricted, making this system a key component of local environmental policy.
Jangheung County was recognized for establishing an interdepartmental cooperation system and implementing effective measures to systematically manage and improve the water quality of the Tamjin River.
A county official stated, "The achievements in protecting local water quality are the result of administrative efforts together with resident participation," adding, "We will continue to pursue effective management and improvement measures to protect the water quality of the Tamjin River."
