Kang Hoonshik: "Special Inspector Appointment Is Certain... Kim Namguk and Kim Hyunji Did Not Convey Personnel Requests"

"Urges National Assembly to Promptly Recommend Special Inspector"

Kang Hoonshik: "Special Inspector Appointment Is Certain... Kim Namguk and Kim Hyunji Did Not Convey Personnel Requests" Yonhap News Agency

On December 7, Kang Hoonshik, Chief of Staff at the Presidential Office, reiterated his commitment to appointing a special inspector for the Presidential Office, a position that has yet to be filled. He stated, "I would like to once again confirm our intention to proceed with this appointment."

During a press briefing held at the Yongsan Presidential Office to mark the six-month performance report of the Lee Jaemyung administration, Kang said, "I would like to take this opportunity to once again urge the National Assembly to quickly recommend a candidate for the special inspector and send them to us."

Kang added, "As you know, the procedure requires the National Assembly to recommend a candidate. Once recommended, we will bring that person on board and ensure greater transparency, while also welcoming constructive oversight to guide the Presidential Office in the right direction."

President Lee Jaemyung had previously announced during a press conference marking his 30th day in office that he would appoint a special inspector. However, the ruling party has yet to recommend a candidate. In contrast, following recent controversies involving so-called "personnel solicitation text messages" sent by former Digital Communications Secretary Kim Namguk and First Secretary Kim Hyunji, the opposition party is now demanding the appointment of a special inspector.

In relation to this, Kang stated, "The Presidential Office is taking a firm stance against inappropriate solicitations," and explained, "As a result of the inspection of Secretary Kim and Secretary Kim, it was confirmed that Secretary Kim did not relay any related information."
