Supporting the Management of Everyday Stress, Including Depression and Anxiety
Yangcheon District in Seoul (District Mayor Lee Gijae) announced on December 7 that it has recently opened the 'Mind:On' psychological counseling center within the Mental Health Welfare Center, officially launching a public psychological support system for district residents.
The district remodeled part of the second floor of the main building of the Yangcheon District Public Health Center to create the psychological counseling center, which will support residents' mental health and promote emotional well-being in daily life.
The newly opened 'Mind:On' center is characterized by its dedicated counseling spaces that maintain professional counseling functions while offering a comfortable atmosphere. It is operated as an 'open counseling center' to lower the barriers for residents who previously found it difficult to access professional counseling services, allowing them to use the facility more comfortably.
The center plans to expand its focus from treatment-oriented to prevention-oriented services, providing psychological assessments and counseling for residents experiencing emotional difficulties. It will also offer comprehensive psychological evaluations and group programs for children and adolescents at high risk for ADHD and their guardians, thereby establishing a robust public psychological support system.
Meanwhile, the district is providing management programs for individuals with severe mental illnesses and free mental health counseling services tailored to different life stages, centered around the Mental Health Welfare Center at the public health center. Customized recovery support programs, such as case management, day rehabilitation programs, family support services, and self-help groups, are operated approximately 9,200 times annually.
Lee Gijae, Mayor of Yangcheon District, stated, "With the opening of the 'Mind:On' psychological counseling center, we have lowered the barriers so that any resident experiencing emotional difficulties can receive counseling in a more comfortable environment," adding, "We will continue to strengthen the support needed to warmly embrace residents' hearts and help them recover."
