Jeonnam Records Best Air Quality Nationwide... Ultrafine Dust Levels at Lowest Point

Institute of Health and Environment Releases Last Year's Air Quality Assessment Report
Fine Dust at 25, Ultrafine Dust at 13 ㎍/㎥... Lowest Levels in a Decade

As of last year, the concentrations of fine dust (PM-10) and ultrafine dust (PM-2.5) in the Jeonnam region were the lowest in the past ten years, with ultrafine dust levels being the lowest nationwide.

The Jeonnam Institute of Health and Environment has published the "2024 Jeonnam Air Quality Assessment Report," which provides a comprehensive analysis of air quality in Jeonnam for 2024. The air quality assessment report is published annually to provide residents with accurate and highly reliable information.

This year’s report contains a multi-faceted analysis of data measured throughout 2025 at 41 urban air quality monitoring stations and 11 atmospheric heavy metal monitoring stations in Jeonnam.

According to the analysis, compared to 2023, the concentration of fine dust (PM-10) decreased from 32㎍/㎥ to 25㎍/㎥, and ultrafine dust (PM-2.5) decreased from 15㎍/㎥ to 13㎍/㎥. Additionally, nitrogen dioxide (NO2) dropped slightly from 0.0084 ppm to 0.0075 ppm, and carbon monoxide (CO) decreased from 0.37 ppm to 0.36 ppm. On the other hand, sulfur dioxide (SO2) increased slightly from 0.0026 ppm to 0.0027 ppm, and ozone (O3) rose from 0.0342 ppm to 0.0347 ppm.

In Jeonnam, the number of days with "Good" ultrafine dust levels (daily average of 15㎍/㎥ or less) reached 276 days, an increase of 33 days compared to the previous year, while the number of "Bad" days (daily average of 36㎍/㎥ or less) was 3 days, a decrease of 7 days. The number of air pollution advisories also dropped significantly, with fine dust advisories decreasing from 23 times in 2023 to 11 times, and no ultrafine dust advisories issued in 2024.

Yang Jeonggo, Head of the Air Quality Management Division at the Jeonnam Institute of Health and Environment, stated, "This report systematically analyzes the current status of air quality in Jeonnam and will be useful for establishing future air quality policies and plans. We will continue our efforts in air quality management to improve residents’ health and living environment."

The air quality assessment report can be downloaded from the information disclosure bulletin board on the website of the Jeonnam Institute of Health and Environment.
