On December 6, several online communities saw a post titled "Lee Jae-yong's Son's Motto" rapidly spreading.
The post included an image of the electronic display board from the '139th Navy and Marine Corps Officer Candidate Graduation and Commissioning Ceremony,' which was held on November 28 at the parade ground of the Naval Academy in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do. The display showed Jiho's photo along with his motto: "Without pain, humans cannot evolve, so enjoy it." Photos of Chairman Lee Jae-yong opening a hot pack and offering words of encouragement to Jiho were also shared.
This prompted comments such as, "The way parents look at their children is always the same," and "It must be a lot of pressure to live as the son of the Samsung family." Some speculated, "He must like Nietzsche." One of the most famous quotes by philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche is, "That which does not kill me makes me stronger."

At the commissioning ceremony, Jiho received congratulations from Chairman Lee, his grandmother Hong Ra-hee, Honorary Director of the Leeum Museum of Art, and his aunt Lee Seo-hyun, President of Samsung C&T Corporation. His mother, Lim Se-ryung, Vice Chairwoman of Daesang Holdings, his maternal grandmother Park Hyun-joo, Vice Chairwoman of Sangam Communications, and his aunt Lim Sang-min, Vice President of Daesang Corporation, were also present to offer their congratulations.
Chairman Lee and Honorary Director Hong personally attached the rank insignia to Jiho's uniform sleeves. Facing Chairman Lee, Jiho gave a spirited salute, saying, "Victory! I have been commissioned as a Second Lieutenant," to which Chairman Lee responded with a smile, "Victory!"

Jiho, who gave up his U.S. citizenship and enlisted as part of the 139th class of officer candidates in September last year, served as the class representative and led the troops during the commissioning ceremony. He was selected as class representative by his peers and was responsible for the commissioning oath and troop command. Now commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, Jiho will serve as an interpretation officer for the next 39 months.
