Chairman Joo Byungki Elected as Vice Chair of OECD Competition Committee Yonhap News Agency

The Korea Fair Trade Commission announced that Chairman Joo Byungki was elected as Vice Chair of the Bureau at the regular meeting of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Competition Committee, which was held in Paris, France, from December 1 to 5.


The Competition Committee Bureau is a key body composed of the heads of competition authorities from major countries such as France, the United States, and Japan. It leads the operation of the meetings and the setting of major agendas.


At this regular meeting, the Korean delegation shared cases from Korea, including market analysis and the design of corrective measures, as well as competition in the artificial intelligence (AI) and financial sectors.


Chairman Joo introduced Korea’s experience in enhancing the effectiveness of corrective measures by collaborating with a variety of stakeholders, including foreign competition authorities, competing businesses, consumer organizations, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, focusing on the merger case between Korean Air and Asiana Airlines.


He also shared insights gained from the high market concentration in the AI infrastructure market and the review process of the Synopsys-Ensis merger case.


In addition, during the meeting, Chairman Joo held bilateral consultations with competition authorities from the United States (DOJ), Japan, France, and Mexico.
