This event was organized to share the achievements of various educational, cultural, and international exchange programs conducted by the Busan American Corner over the past year, and to strengthen the foundation for continued exchanges between Korea and the United States in the future.
The ceremony was attended by President Bae Sanghoon and other key officials from Pukyong National University, James R. Heller, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Korea, other representatives from the U.S. Embassy, and officials from Busan Metropolitan City and related organizations. The event included a special lecture by Deputy Chief of Mission Heller, a presentation on the operational achievements of the Busan American Corner, and was held in the form of a reception.
The Busan American Corner is the first case of installing the U.S. Embassy’s regional community platform, ‘American Corner,’ on a university campus in Korea. Since its opening in September last year, it has operated more than 50 programs, including those on U.S. politics and diplomacy, English language skills development, and information on studying abroad and scholarships. During this period, a total of about 840 people participated, and the center has provided three to six educational and cultural programs per month to the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regional community and students. It is being recognized as a model for national universities contributing to the internationalization of their local communities.
Pukyong National University plans to continue expanding various international exchange and cultural programs centered around the Busan American Corner, further strengthening its connection with the local community, and developing it as a symbolic space for Korea-U.S. cooperation.
