The police launched an investigation after responding to a report of confinement and discovering evidence of prostitution activity at the scene.
According to the Gwangju Seobu Police Station on December 5, at approximately 7:46 p.m. the previous day, a woman called the emergency number 112 from a studio apartment in Ssangchon-dong, Seo-gu, reporting, "I followed a man who promised me money into his room, but now I am locked in and cannot get out."
Because the caller had blocked her caller ID and did not specify the exact unit, the police checked each unit in the building one by one to locate her.
During this process, they found evidence suggesting that prostitution was taking place in some of the units.
At the scene, a man in his 40s, identified as Mr. A and suspected of being a pimp, and a woman in her 20s, identified as Ms. B, were apprehended.
The police reportedly obtained statements from both individuals regarding their involvement in arranging and engaging in prostitution.
Additionally, two to three other women suspected of engaging in prostitution were found in other units of the same building, leading the police to believe that prostitution was being organized and operated within the premises.
No significant injuries were reported at the scene, and there were no signs of physical altercation or violence.
The police plan to investigate the circumstances of the incident, the scale of the prostitution operation, and whether there were additional participants, and intend to charge Mr. A and Ms. B with arranging prostitution and related offenses.
