Yoon's Prison Message Should Be Interpreted in Reverse
Yomiuri Article Claims "Yoon Was Used"
Conservative commentator Kopae Cho, CEO of Kopaeje.com, argued on December 3 that the statement released by former President Yoon Sukyeol on the first anniversary of the December 3 Uprising was "a piece of writing that should be taught in Korean language classes." However, he clarified that "it should not be taught as an exemplary text, but rather used as an example of bad writing, showing how one should not write."
On December 5, Cho appeared on SBS Radio's "Kim Taehyun's Political Show" and criticized the part of Yoon's statement describing the imposition of emergency martial law as "a resolute fulfillment of the constitutional duty to defend the liberal constitutional order against an attempted overthrow of the system." Cho pointed out, "It lacks logic and dignity, and the exaggeration, fabrication, and distortion are excessive." He further mocked, "It's almost a skill to fit so many problems into such a short sentence." In particular, Cho referred to the section where Yoon claimed that "there were over 1,200 cases of fraudulent hiring and it was found that both ballot casting and counting could be hacked," arguing that the fairness of the National Election Commission was threatened. Cho criticized, "He is still unable to break free from conspiracy theories about election fraud."
Cho also took issue with Yoon's statement that "all responsibility lies with me, as the commander-in-chief of the military." He remarked, "In important courtrooms, doesn't he tend to shift responsibility to his subordinates?" and added, "If he truly believed the martial law was legitimate, he should have said, 'I take full responsibility; do not reprimand my subordinates.' That would be consistent, but now he is acting in the opposite way."
Regarding the recent interview with former President Yoon published by Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun, Cho downplayed its significance. He commented, "(Former President Yoon) was used by the Japanese media," and explained, "Looking at the newspaper, his claims were not given much prominence, nor were there any supportive commentaries." He added, "It is hard to see the report as being intended to convey Yoon's sense of injustice."
