Hanil Cement announced on December 5 that following its Danyang plant last year, this year its Yeongwol plant has been certified as an outstanding company in the Energy Efficiency Target System (KEEP 30).

KEEP 30 refers to 30 energy-intensive companies that have voluntarily signed agreements with the government to improve their annual average energy intensity by at least 1% from 2023 to 2027. Energy intensity is the amount of energy used divided by the amount of product produced.

Hanil Cement's Yeongwol plant achieved a 6.72% improvement in energy intensity last year. This means the plant used 6.72% less energy to produce the same amount of product. Hanil Cement received an 'S grade' rating, far exceeding the 1% improvement target.

The Yeongwol plant invested approximately 105 billion won last year to complete an eco-friendly power generation facility that produces electricity using waste heat generated during the cement production process. As a result, the plant can now generate about 30% of its electricity needs in-house. In the same year, the company invested 198 billion won to remodel its cement raw material preheating facility. After these upgrades, fossil fuel consumption was reduced, while the use of alternative fuels such as waste synthetic resin was increased, leading to improved energy efficiency.

A Hanil Cement representative stated, "Despite a sharp decline in cement shipments due to the downturn in the construction market, we continue to invest in eco-friendly facilities," adding, "We will not stop our efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions in the future."
