Five former and current government officials have been additionally booked on charges of neglecting a concrete embankment at the end of the airport runway, which has been identified as one of the causes of the December 29 Jeju Air passenger plane disaster.

The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency's task force investigating the Jeju Air passenger plane accident announced on December 5 that five former and current officials from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport have been booked without detention on charges of occupational negligence resulting in death and injury.

These individuals are known to have been responsible for airport operation certification or airport operation inspection work during their tenure as officials at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The police believe that they played a certain role in the installation and maintenance of the localizer facility, a concrete structure, at the end of the runway.

As a result, the number of people booked in connection with the December 29 Jeju Air passenger plane disaster has reached 44, including the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the CEO of Jeju Air, and the CEO of Korea Airports Corporation, all of whom were accused by the bereaved families.

The police plan to continue their investigation by analyzing materials such as forensic reports from the National Forensic Service.
