The discussion meeting was attended by more than 130 participants, including Kim Dae-soon, the Second Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province, labor safety keepers from 31 cities and counties, representatives of organizations implementing the project, and individuals recognized for their contributions to industrial accident prevention activities.
During the meeting, the achievements of 112 labor safety keepers, who have played a crucial role in ensuring safety at industrial sites across Gyeonggi Province over the past nine months, were presented. In addition, opinions were gathered on areas for improvement to set the direction for next year's projects. Awards were also presented to those who made outstanding contributions to industrial accident prevention in the province.
Gyeonggi Province accounts for 25% of the nation's workplaces and workers, and has the highest number of small-scale construction and manufacturing businesses with fewer than 50 employees-about 210,000-posing a high risk of industrial accidents. This highlights the need to strengthen industrial accident prevention capabilities. This year, 112 Gyeonggi Province labor safety keepers have been active, achieving a preemptive improvement rate of 86% in addressing potential risk factors.
In addition to on-site inspections, labor safety keepers are also working to raise social awareness and improve perceptions of safety through joint inspections and campaigns on Labor Safety Day (the first Wednesday of every month). These efforts have led to tangible results, such as improved safety awareness and better working environments, and have significantly contributed to strengthening safety management capabilities, especially in vulnerable workplaces.
However, industrial accidents of varying degrees still occur, and since the government has made this a key national policy task, Gyeonggi Province plans to continuously strengthen its labor safety policies.
Kim Dae-soon, Second Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Gyeonggi Province aims to reduce the industrial accident fatality rate to the OECD average level (0.29) by 2026. We will continue to implement projects to support on-site safety management and do our utmost to make Gyeonggi Province a safe region free from industrial accidents."
