Sinan County in South Jeolla Province was selected as an outstanding local government and received the Commissioner’s Commendation from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency at the ‘2025 Tick-Borne Infectious Disease Prevention and Management Project Evaluation Contest’ hosted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.
According to the county on December 5, the evaluation comprehensively reviewed 107 local governments nationwide, assessing project plans tailored to regional characteristics, prevention and management performance, and infectious disease response capabilities to select outstanding institutions.
The county received high marks for effectively reducing the risk of infectious disease outbreaks by implementing a prevention and management project that directly reaches high-risk groups based on close interdepartmental collaboration, and by proactively identifying areas with a high likelihood of tick-borne infectious disease outbreaks to carry out specialized projects.
In addition, the county was recognized for its exemplary practices, such as strengthening outreach prevention education and promotional activities for elderly job participants, garden maintenance staff, farmers, and senior college students, thereby raising awareness of infectious disease prevention in the community.
Kim Hyunhee, Director of the Sinan County Public Health Center, stated, “There is no vaccine for tick-borne infectious diseases, so prevention is more important than anything else,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen our preventive activities to protect the health of our residents.”
Building on this achievement, Sinan plans to further expand its tick-borne infectious disease prevention policies to minimize the occurrence of infectious diseases in the community and make every effort to protect the health of its residents.
