Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province selected this year's 'Top 10 News of Bucheon' through a public vote.
According to the city on December 5, the top story was 'OUT with Extreme YouTubers at Bucheon Station.' This reflects the high level of public interest in the city's large-scale crackdown on certain YouTubers who have been conducting indiscriminate filming around Bucheon Station.
Recently, the city installed a 'Media Safety Center' at Pinocchio Square near Bucheon Station to monitor and accept reports of illegal filming and disruptive behavior by extreme YouTubers. Although Pinocchio Square is a space used by many citizens and merchants, it has gained a reputation as a hub for extreme online broadcasts due to repeated excessive filming and disturbances by some YouTubers.
The second most significant news item was the confirmation in February of the establishment of Bucheon Science High School. Third place went to the initiative to have KTX-Eum trains stop at Sosa Station to improve regional transportation. Fourth was the expanded issuance of Bucheon Pay, and fifth was the opening of the nighttime media park, Bucheon Luminarae.
Other stories rounding out the top ten included the redevelopment of Jung-dong's first-generation new town, the opening of the Songnae National Sports Center, the attraction of anchor companies to the Daejang Industrial Complex, the strengthening of online education, and the expansion of dedicated youth spaces, ranking sixth through tenth respectively.
This vote was conducted via the city's official social media channels for one week starting November 24. Participants could vote for up to five out of fifteen items, and a total of 2,144 people took part.
A Bucheon City official stated, "Based on the results of this vote, we will carefully examine which policies citizens need and pursue city administration that resonates with the public."
