Six Major Projects Including Bobaebokhap District Arterial Road Construction
Double the Previous Year’s Funding, Accelerating Free Economic Zone Infrastructure Expansion
The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority (BJFEZ), led by Commissioner Park Sungho, has secured a total of 25.2 billion won in national funding for infrastructure projects in 2026, providing a significant boost to its development initiatives.
This represents nearly a twofold increase from the previous year’s 13 billion won, marking a turning point that is expected to greatly accelerate the expansion of infrastructure within the free economic zone.
With this funding, the authority will be able to steadily advance key initiatives such as expanding infrastructure to vitalize the free economic zone, improving regional transportation networks for better accessibility, and enhancing the efficiency of cargo transport between Busan New Port and the free economic zone.
The main national funding allocations are as follows: 10 billion won for the BJFEZ North Access Road, 1 billion won for the expansion of the Myeongji District (Phase 2) arterial road, 1 billion won for the Dudong District access road, 5.3 billion won for the Bobaebokhap District arterial road, 3.2 billion won for the Ungdong District access road, and 4.7 billion won for the Ungdong District north arterial road. In total, 25.2 billion won in national funding will be invested across six infrastructure projects.
In particular, 10 billion won in national funding has been secured for the BJFEZ North Access Road, a project that includes the construction of the provisional Jangnak Bridge over the West Nakdong River, aimed at alleviating chronic congestion, improving logistics flow, and strengthening connectivity between Busan and Gyeongnam. This will allow for full-scale commencement of construction. Additionally, 5.3 billion won has been allocated to the Bobaebokhap District arterial road, which is being developed to create a complex logistics hub behind Busan New Port and Jinhae New Port. This is expected to accelerate project progress, including the start of construction in the first half of 2026.
Furthermore, the expansion of major transportation and logistics networks connecting Busan and Gyeongnam is expected to facilitate smoother cargo handling at Busan New Port, thereby strengthening the linkage of the broader economic region, enhancing the overall competitiveness of local industries, attracting greater domestic and foreign investment, and revitalizing the entire free economic zone.
Commissioner Park Sungho stated, "The secured budget will be invested in core infrastructure projects to foster the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone as a logistics hub in Northeast Asia," adding, "Through the smooth implementation of these projects, we will achieve tangible results that contribute to regional economic revitalization and the enhancement of the national economy."
