Nominations Accepted Until January 15 Next Year
Presidential Award Ceremony Scheduled for May 15
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is seeking nominees for the 'Sejong Culture Award,' which was established to honor the achievements of King Sejong and to promote the creative development of Korean culture by carrying on his spirit of compassion for the people, independence, practicality, and action.
On December 5, the Ministry announced that it will accept nominations for the 'Sejong Culture Award' until January 15 of next year. The award will be presented by the President in four categories: Korean language and Hangul, culture, arts and humanities, public cultural welfare and diversity, and cultural exchange, cooperation, and globalization. The total prize money is 25 million won. The award ceremony will be held on May 15 next year during the commemorative event for the 629th anniversary of King Sejong's birth.
Established in 1982 and now in its 44th year, the 'Sejong Culture Award' has honored a total of 207 recipients to date. Notable awardees include Lee Daero, President of the Hanmalgeul Culture Association (2025, Korean Language and Hangul); the Gwanhyeon Blind Traditional Arts Troupe (2025, Public Cultural Welfare and Diversity); Lee Gimi, President of the Belarus Korean Association (2024, Korean Culture); the Asian Human Rights and Culture Solidarity (2020, Cultural Diversity); St. Joseph Clinic (2016, International Cooperation and Service); Professor Alexandre Guillemoz of the ?cole des Hautes ?tudes en Sciences Sociales in France (2015, Korean Culture); conductor and cellist Chang Hanna (2012, Arts); and the Academy of Korean Studies (2008, National Culture).
Individuals, organizations, and groups may recommend candidates for the award using convenient methods such as electronic official documents, email, or registered mail. The nomination form can be downloaded from the Ministry's website.
