Cheonan Resident Kills Upstairs Neighbor Over Noise Dispute with Weapon; Victim in 70s Dies

In Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, a resident who had been in conflict with an upstairs neighbor over noise between floors attacked the neighbor with a weapon, resulting in one fatality.

According to police and fire authorities, at around 2:32 p.m. on December 4, a report was received via emergency services stating that "someone has been stabbed in the abdomen" at an apartment complex in Ssangyong-dong, Seobuk-gu.

Mr. A, in his 70s, suffered severe injuries to his abdomen and face. He was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest but did not survive.

The police arrested Mr. B, in his 40s, at the scene and confiscated the weapon.

Mr. B, who lives in the apartment below Mr. A, was reportedly angered by construction noise from the upstairs unit and went upstairs with a weapon to commit the crime.

After being injured by Mr. B's weapon, Mr. A fled to the management office, but Mr. B pursued him.

When Mr. B found the management office door locked, he drove his car into the office, entered, and attacked Mr. A again with the weapon.

The police believe that these individuals had ongoing conflicts over noise between floors and have charged Mr. B with murder, launching a detailed investigation into the incident.
