An arrest warrant has been requested for a public official from Yangyang County, Gangwon Province, who is suspected of abusing sanitation workers.
The Sokcho Branch of the Chuncheon District Prosecutors' Office announced on the 4th that it had requested an arrest warrant the previous day for Mr. A, a level 7 driver employed by Yangyang County, on charges including coercion.
Mr. A is accused of workplace bullying, including assault and coercion, against sanitation workers. He allegedly engaged in so-called "martial law play," used violence, forced workers to run alongside garbage trucks by not allowing them to board, and compelled them to wear underwear of a specific color. In addition, whenever Mr. A incurred losses in stock trading, the worker who lost at rock-paper-scissors would be assaulted, and workers were also forced to trade stocks that Mr. A had invested in. The victims filed a complaint related to this case on the 25th of last month.
After booking Mr. A on charges of coercion, the police conducted searches on November 27 at three locations: Yangyang County Office, Mr. A's residence, and his workplace. Following the first round of questioning on December 2, the police applied for an arrest warrant on December 3.
The prosecutors, after reviewing the arrest warrant requested by the police, determined that there was sufficient reason for detention and proceeded to request the warrant. The pretrial detention hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. on December 5 at the Sokcho Branch of Chuncheon District Court.
