Moon Jinseok and Kim Namguk Reported to Police over Personnel Solicitation Text Message Controversy

Moon Jinseok, Deputy Floor Leader for Operations of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Kim Namguk, Digital Communications Secretary in the Presidential Office, who have been embroiled in controversy over personnel solicitation text messages, have been reported to the police.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, Lee Jongbae, a Seoul Metropolitan Council member from the People Power Party, filed a complaint on December 4 against Deputy Floor Leader Moon and Secretary Kim on charges of being accomplices in obstruction of work by abuse of power.

Councilman Lee also filed a complaint against Kang Hunsik, Chief of Staff to the President, and Kim Hyunji, First Secretary to the President, in connection with Secretary Kim's response to Deputy Floor Leader Moon, which was interpreted as expressing his intention to relay the personnel request to Chief Kang and Secretary Kim.

Previously, on December 2, during a plenary session at the National Assembly, media cameras captured Deputy Floor Leader Moon sending a text message to Secretary Kim recommending Hong Seongbeom, former head of the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association, for the position of president of the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association.
