Gwangmyeong City Offers Free Strawberry Experience Program for Children and Vulnerable Groups

For 10 Organizations Including Welfare Centers and Daycare Centers
Experience Strawberry Harvesting, Dessert and Craft Making

Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 4th that it will offer a free "Smart Farm Strawberry Experience Program" throughout this month for local welfare centers, dementia centers, and daycare centers.

This program utilizes strawberries produced at the "Gwangmyeong Cave Strawberry Smart Farm," which opened last month on 142, Gahak-ro 85beon-gil at the former Upcycle Art Center and is currently operating on a trial basis.

The experience program consists of activities such as ▲strawberry harvesting ▲making strawberry desserts ▲making strawberry soap ▲creating eco-bags with strawberry prints, allowing participants to learn about the principles of smart agriculture and enjoy the fun of harvesting.

Institutions wishing to participate can contact the city’s Urban Agriculture Division for information on the application process and program schedule. The city will accept applications from up to 10 organizations on a first-come, first-served basis, and both material costs and instructor fees are free of charge.

Based on the operation of this pilot program, the city plans to strengthen its preparations to officially launch the smart farm starting next year.

The "Gwangmyeong Cave Strawberry Smart Farm" covers a total area of 206 square meters. Inside, it features a 145-square-meter enclosed and vertical smart cultivation facility, an experience and exhibition room, and a classroom. By applying smart agriculture technologies such as LED lighting, automation systems, and temperature and humidity sensors, the facility produces strawberries in optimal conditions regardless of the climate.

The city is also operating an "Apartment-Type Factory Smart Farm" that produces strawberry seedlings at an apartment-type factory located at 228, Haan-ro. Strawberry seedlings produced here are supplied to the Gwangmyeong Cave Smart Farm and are also distributed to plant factories and local farms, supporting a stable agricultural production system.
