Yeonsu District in Incheon Wins Top Prize for National Cancer Control Project for Second Consecutive Year... Screening Rate Up 1.19%

Incheon Yeonsu District has received the top prize for the second consecutive year at the "2025 Incheon Regional National Cancer Control Project Best Practices Contest."

This contest, organized by the Incheon Regional Cancer Center, targeted 10 district health centers and 6 branches of the National Health Insurance Service in Incheon, evaluating a total of five categories across three main areas, from project planning to outcomes.

Yeonsu District won the top prize with its project themed "Gumjin-ae Damda: Yeonsu District's Specialized National Cancer Screening."

The district was highly praised for moving beyond fragmented cancer management projects and developing strategies to increase screening rates by thoroughly analyzing residents' characteristics and screening conditions by neighborhood. In particular, the district achieved tangible improvements in screening rates by conducting in-depth surveys and strengthening targeted screening promotion for vulnerable groups.

The district also collaborated with neighborhood representatives to encourage resident participation and utilized various promotional channels to raise awareness about cancer screening. To this end, the district identified the characteristics of screening candidates through in-depth surveys, conducted a "focused promotion week" involving all staff, and introduced a one-on-one responsibility system to further strengthen personalized encouragement for screenings.

Additionally, in partnership with the Incheon Regional Center for Health Care of Persons with Disabilities, the district provided transportation and screening services for people with disabilities, offering both mobility and return-home support to improve screening rates among people with disabilities and those with limited mobility.

As a result, Yeonsu District recorded a 1.19% year-on-year increase in the national cancer screening participation rate, the highest increase among the 10 districts in Incheon.

Lee Jaeho, Mayor of Yeonsu District, stated, "National cancer screening is a vital project that helps detect cancer-the leading cause of death among Koreans-at an early stage, increases treatment rates, and reduces mortality. We will continue to work closely with related organizations to further raise participation in health screenings and actively promote national cancer screening."
