According to the public health center on December 2, this training was organized to strengthen the team's capacity for rapid and efficient initial response in the event of an avian influenza outbreak, as the number of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) cases has recently increased at domestic poultry farms and among wild birds.

Avian influenza is a virus that occurs in poultry such as chickens and ducks, as well as wild birds. If transmitted to humans, it can cause acute respiratory illness and is known to have a high fatality rate. For this reason, thorough prevention and early response are of utmost importance.

The training was conducted for 18 members of the Namwon City AI Human Infection Countermeasures Team and focused on practical content that can be immediately applied in the field, including: sharing the current domestic AI situation; an overview of AI human infection; detailed roles and response procedures for the human infection countermeasures team in the event of an outbreak; and hands-on practice in donning and doffing Level D personal protective equipment.

Han Yongjae, Director of the Namwon City Public Health Center, stated, "To prevent avian influenza human infection, it is important to follow personal hygiene guidelines such as handwashing, and to receive seasonal influenza vaccinations to prevent co-infection. We will do our utmost to protect the health and safety of our citizens by responding even more swiftly and systematically to avian influenza outbreaks, building on the experience gained from this training."
