Samsung Electronics has ambitiously unveiled its dual-folding foldable phone, the 'Galaxy Z Tri-fold' (hereafter referred to as Tri-fold). The company expressed confidence that this product, equipped with a wide range of artificial intelligence (AI) features, a large 10-inch display optimized for content viewing, and a slim design, will shake up the foldable market.
At a press conference held at 'Samsung Gangnam' in Seocho-gu, Seoul on December 2, Executive Vice President Seongtaek Lim introduced the Tri-fold as "a product that encapsulates all of Samsung Electronics' technology," and described it as "the newest and most advanced product, taking technology to the next level at the forefront of form factor innovation."
The Tri-fold features an 'in-folding' structure that folds inward twice, boasting a large 10-inch (253mm) display when fully unfolded. Unlike the Z-shaped out-folding structure of the Tri-fold phone released last year by Huawei in China, Samsung claims its design offers greater stability. It achieves the thinnest profile among Galaxy models at just 3.9mm when unfolded and, when folded, can be used as a bar-type smartphone with a 6.5-inch cover display. There is also an automatic alert function that notifies users with a screen alert and vibration if any abnormality is detected during the folding process.
Executive Vice President Minseok Kang stated, "Samsung's years of accumulated know-how in foldable innovation are fully reflected in the multi-folding experience of the Tri-fold," adding, "By applying the in-folding structure, we designed it to securely protect the main display." He continued, "The hinge and display, which are core technologies of foldables, have also been refined and further evolved to suit the multi-folding structure."

The Tri-fold is designed with 'Armor Flex Hinges' of varying sizes on each panel, allowing it to fold and unfold smoothly and stably. Advanced materials are precisely combined to withstand external shocks. Notably, it underwent durability testing for 200,000 folds, simulating opening and closing the device 100 times a day for five years.
The mobile application processor (AP), which serves as the smartphone’s brain, is powered by the 'Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy.' It is equipped with the largest battery ever in the Galaxy foldable series, with a capacity of 5,600mAh, and three separate battery cells are placed in each panel to ensure balanced power supply. The device features a total of five cameras on the front and back, including a 200-megapixel wide-angle camera for capturing bright and clear images.
Ask Gemini Live on the Large Screen... Optimized for Multitasking
The Tri-fold is a form factor well-suited for utilizing multimodal AI features and multitasking. As if using three smartphones at once, users can run up to three apps side by side with the multi-window function. In the Samsung Internet app, original content and Galaxy AI-generated summaries or translations are displayed side by side for easy viewing. On the large screen, users can easily engage in creative activities using generative editing and sketch conversion features, and after editing images, they can compare before-and-after results at a glance using the original view function.

With the enhanced 'Gemini Live,' which utilizes multimodal AI capable of processing various types of information such as text, calculations, and images simultaneously, users can share information they are viewing on the screen in real time or share camera footage and ask AI questions tailored to the current situation and receive answers.
For example, an architect can check design blueprints, draft proposals, and calculate necessary figures all on one screen. Users can display a shopping app and a complex floor plan side by side and ask Gemini Live whether the furniture they wish to purchase will fit well in the sample layout.
The Tri-fold is priced at 3,590,400 won, positioning it as a premium 'special edition' rather than a mainstream phone, and it will be released on December 12. Executive Vice President Lim explained, "Despite the continued surge in memory prices, we managed to set this price through a difficult but strategic decision." He further predicted, "The Tri-fold could be the trigger for explosive growth in the foldable market."
Starting in Korea, the Tri-fold will be rolled out sequentially in global markets such as China, Taiwan, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States. In Korea, it will be sold through Samsung.com and at 20 stores nationwide, including 'Samsung Gangnam,' with product experience zones set up at these locations from December 9. The Tri-fold will be released as a single black model with 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage.
