On December 2, Samsung Electronics unveiled the "Galaxy Z Trifold" (hereafter referred to as Trifold), a dual-folding device that brings together the company’s full foldable expertise. Equipped with five cameras, the Trifold is optimized for multitasking, allowing users to operate it as if using three smartphones simultaneously. Its mobile artificial intelligence (AI) features are also tailored for the large display.

Seongtaek Lim, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics Korea, described the Trifold at a press conference held at Samsung Gangnam in Seocho-gu, Seoul, as "a product that embodies Samsung Electronics’ craftsmanship" and "a new and most advanced device that elevates technology at the forefront of innovation." When unfolded, the Trifold offers a 10-inch (253mm) large display ideal for content viewing; when folded, it provides a 6.5-inch (164.8mm) bar-type screen similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, allowing for flexible use in various environments.
Tae Moon Roh, President of Samsung Electronics, stated that the Trifold "realizes a balance between productivity and portability, based on Samsung Electronics’ leadership in the emerging form factor sector," and added, "It will further expand the overall mobile experience in work, creativity, and connectivity."
The world’s first trifold phone was Huawei’s "Mate XT," released last year in China. However, while the Mate XT features an out-folding structure that folds in a Z-shape, the Trifold is designed with an in-folding structure, folding both sides of the screen inward. The left screen is folded first, followed by the right screen with the rear camera.
The Trifold features a slim design, measuring 12.9mm thick when folded and just 3.9mm at its thinnest point when unfolded. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy and comes equipped with a 200-megapixel wide-angle camera. Its battery capacity is 5,600mAh, the largest among all Galaxy foldables to date, with three-cell batteries placed in each panel for balanced power distribution. The device weighs 309 grams.
The most notable features are the AI functions and multitasking capabilities optimized for the large display. Users can run up to three applications side by side using the multi-window feature, as if operating three smartphones at once, and can freely adjust app sizes. For example, users can display a shopping app and a floor plan side by side while receiving product recommendations from Gemini Live.

In the Samsung Internet app, original content and summaries or translations generated by "Galaxy AI" are displayed side by side for easy comparison. On the large screen, users can conveniently engage in creative activities using "generative editing" and "sketch conversion" features, and compare before-and-after results with the "view original" function after image editing.
With "Gemini Live," an enhanced multimodal AI capable of processing text, calculations, and images simultaneously, users can share information displayed on the screen in real time, or share camera footage and ask the AI questions relevant to the current situation and receive answers.
Samsung Electronics will roll out the Trifold starting in Korea on December 12, followed by launches in China, Taiwan, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States. In Korea, it will be available through Samsung.com and at 20 stores nationwide, including Samsung Gangnam. Ahead of the launch, experience zones will be set up at these 20 stores starting December 9. The device is available in a single black model with 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage, priced at 3,590,400 won, which is lower than initially expected. Executive Vice President Lim explained, "The Trifold is being prepared as a 'special edition' for those who want it, rather than for mass sales," and added, "Although memory prices are soaring, we made a bold decision to set this price."
