Special Prosecutor: "Suspicion of Prosecution Investigators Dispatched in Connection with Former Minister Park Sungjae's Charges"
Search Conducted at Forensic Center and Scientific Investigation Division of Supreme Prosecutors' Office
The special investigation team led by Special Prosecutor Cho Eunseok, which is investigating the rebellion and treason cases related to the December 3 Martial Law Incident, conducted a search and seizure at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office on December 1 in connection with suspicions that a prosecutor from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office was dispatched to the National Election Commission (NEC) on the day martial law was declared last year.
Special Prosecutor Park Jiyoung stated at a briefing that day, "We conducted a search and seizure at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office in relation to former Justice Minister Park Sungjae's alleged involvement in a major insurrection," adding, "This is to clarify the facts regarding suspicions that prosecution investigators were dispatched to the NEC on the day martial law was declared."
The special investigation team is currently investigating suspicions that a prosecutor from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, who was in contact with the Defense Security Command on the day martial law was declared, was dispatched to the NEC.
On the morning of December 1, the special investigation team searched the offices of the Scientific Investigation Division at the National Digital Forensic Center within the Supreme Prosecutors' Office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and reportedly secured personal information and other data of those suspected of being dispatched on the day martial law was declared.
Previously, on November 25, the special investigation team also conducted a search and seizure at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office in connection with former Minister Park's alleged involvement in the declaration of martial law.
The "Government Innovation Task Force for Constitutional Respect," headed by Acting Prosecutor General Koo Jahyun, requested on November 26 that Heo Jeong, who was then the head of the Scientific Investigation Division at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office (currently a research fellow at the Legal Research and Training Institute), and Park, a director at the division at the time (at the level of chief prosecutor), submit their mobile phone call records and vehicle operation logs from December 3 of last year.
Meanwhile, the prosecution refuted the allegations through a public notice in December last year, stating, "The prosecution did not receive or send any dispatch requests related to martial law from the Defense Security Command or any other agency."
