Daum Service Provider Changes to AXZ
Separated as an Independent Entity 11 Years After Merger
The internet portal Daum has officially separated from Kakao and embarked on a new beginning.
According to the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) industry on December 1, from this day forward, the legal provider of Daum's services has changed from Kakao to its subsidiary, AXZ.
AXZ stated, "We are preparing for a new leap by combining the technology and expertise Daum has accumulated with AI technology," adding, "We aim to embark on an exciting journey that connects the infinite possibilities of all valuable content, from the beginning (A) to the end (Z) of the world."
With this, Daum has become a separate legal entity 11 years after its merger with Kakao in 2014. Daum's service is now legally and administratively independent from Kakao, marking a new start.
As the operator has changed, the Daum service terms now specify that "AXZ Corporation provides the service." In addition, clauses related to Daum have been removed from Kakao-related terms of use, such as the "Kakao Privacy Policy."
A Kakao representative said, "We have completed system checks related to the change in the legal provider of Daum's service," and added, "We will ensure the smooth transfer of business by the end of the year."
The representative also emphasized, "We will continue to update and do our best to evolve into a comprehensive content platform that integrates short-form and AI services, and to provide services tailored to user needs."
However, although the operator has changed, the login structure remains the same. Since the Kakao integrated account system is maintained, existing Kakao members can continue to use Daum's services with their integrated accounts.
Previously, in May, Kakao announced through a disclosure that it would spin off the content CIC responsible for Daum to establish a new corporation, and the following month, changed its name to AXZ.
