"The Master of the World" Wins Best Picture at Korean Film Producers Association Awards Movie Still Cut of "Master of the World"

Director Yoon Ga-eun's film "The Master of the World" will receive the Best Picture award at the Korean Film Producers Association Awards.

On December 1, the Korean Film Producers Association announced the winners in seventeen categories for the 12th awards ceremony. The highest honor, Best Picture, will be awarded to producers Koo Jung-a and Kim Se-hoon. Their collaborative work, "The Master of the World," quietly follows the journey of a young girl as she rediscovers her connection to the world in the moment she feels pushed out of it. The film poses the question to viewers: "How are you connected to this world?"

The Best Director award will go to Kwak Kyung-taek for "Firefighter," a film inspired by the 2001 Hongje-dong fire incident that captures the sense of duty and sacrifice of firefighters. The Best Screenplay award will be given to writer Lim Namu for "People and Meat."

The Best Actor award will be presented to Lee Byung-hun for his performances in "The Match" and "No Other Choice." The Best Actress award will go to Lee Hye-young for her portrayal of an elderly female assassin in "Bruised Fruit." The Best Supporting Actor award will be given to Kwon Hae-hyo, and the Best Supporting Actress award will go to Park Ji-hyun.

The Best Cinematography and Best Lighting awards will be presented to director of photography Kim Woo-hyung and lighting director Kim Min-jae, respectively, for "No Other Choice." The Best Art Direction award will go to art director Jung Eun-young for "The Match," while the Best Editing award will be given to editor Jung Ji-eun for "Firefighter." The Best Sound award will be presented to Kim Seok-won, Kim Min-jae, and Hong Yun-seong for "No Other Choice." The Best Music award will go to music director Jung Yong-jin for "1980 Sabuk," and the Best Technical Achievement award will be given to stylist Kwak Jung-ae for "Harbin."

The Best New Director award will be jointly presented to Lee Ran-hee for "Third Grade, Second Semester" and Jang Byung-ki for "After Summer." The Best New Actor award will go to Seo Soo-bin for "The Master of the World."

The Special Award will be given to "1980 Sabuk," a documentary about the Sabuk Uprising in 1980, which occurred one month before the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement. The film reflects on the idea that if the state fails to take responsibility for clear acts of state violence, the history of violence and barbarism will inevitably remain ongoing.

The awards ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on December 18 at Jeongdong 1928 Art Center.
