"It Is Time to Further Develop My Capabilities and Contribute to My District"
Focuses on Supporting Fellow Candidates
Senior Member of the Democratic Party of Korea, Eonju Lee, announced on November 30 that she will not run in the party primary for Governor of Gyeonggi Province. She stated that although she had considered running, she decided not to enter the race in order to repay the citizens of Yongin who sent her back to the National Assembly, and to help build a stable ruling party for the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration.
On this day, Lee shared on social media, "Upon self-reflection, I have concluded that it is still a time for me to further develop my capabilities and contribute to both the party and my district." She added, "Rather than being a player on the field, I believe my role is to remain in the party leadership, play the necessary part for the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration, and firmly support outstanding fellow politicians who will lead us to victory in next year's local elections." She continued, "Wherever I am needed, I am willing to become the fertilizer that helps others grow."
Lee also revealed her affection for Gyeonggi Province by sharing a story from the past, when she ran unsuccessfully for chairperson of the Democratic Party's Gyeonggi Provincial chapter. She confessed, "Part of me still wanted to avenge my defeat in the Gyeonggi Provincial chairperson election." However, referring to last year's declaration of martial law and the launch of the Lee Jaemyung administration, she said, "This is a crucial time when the party, government, and the presidential office must work together as one to simultaneously pursue economic growth and reform, in order to make the Republic of Korea-protected by the people from rebellion-a better country for future generations." She emphasized, "I firmly believe that unwavering support from the ruling party and the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration are directly linked to the success of Korea. I am also deeply committed to helping the Democratic Party win next year's local elections, so we can make people's lives richer and safer."
She added, "I am deeply grateful to the residents of Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, who sent me back to the National Assembly after my political wandering, and I am strongly committed to serving responsibly for the development of my district."
Finally, Lee stated, "To my fellow senior members who have shared the hardships of overcoming rebellion and achieving victory in the presidential election, and who are now leaving to run in the primaries, I wish you the best of luck."
