Head of Large-Scale Business Division and IT Business Team
Samsung Display has appointed Vice President Son Dongil as the new head of the Large Display Business Division (hereinafter referred to as the Large-Scale Business Division) and head of the IT Business Team. He will lead both the Large-Scale Business Division, which produces Quantum Dot-OLED (QD-OLED) panels for TVs and monitors, and the IT Business Team, which is responsible for products such as laptops.
Samsung Display announced on November 28 that it had appointed Vice President Son Dongil as the head of the Large-Scale Business Division through an organizational restructuring. Since the early days of the QD-OLED business, he has held key positions related to development and production. Most recently, he led the development of high-resolution and high-refresh-rate QD-OLEDs, driving growth in the monitor business.

Born in 1975, Vice President Son graduated from Seoul High School and earned a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Seoul National University. Since joining Samsung in 2004, he has held various key positions, including head of the YE Team at the Manufacturing Technology Center of the Large-Scale Business Division. In the 2023 regular executive appointments, he was promoted to vice president in recognition of his achievement in reaching the QD-OLED yield target ahead of schedule and dramatically improving QD-OLED line productivity solely through process improvements, without additional investment.
Meanwhile, under Vice President Son's leadership, the IT Business Team has established a complete organizational structure through this recent restructuring. The IT Business Team is currently focusing on the development of 8.6-generation IT OLEDs, which are scheduled for mass production next year.
